The Interbreeding Field which is based in the South of Taiwan. Interbreeding Field is mean for “Interbreeding” and “Interfering” laboratory which is established since 1999 in Tainan National University of the Arts. The philosophy of Interbreeding Field is to create new species of architecture, explore new experiments and reconstruct the matrix of sensitive genes. What we have been engaging in Interbreeding Field are: compound construction, production, breeding, creating and developing, then atmosphere compounding.
In Taiwan, some of the major scenes in different cities are the illegally attic, balcony and pigeon house that been built on the top of the buildings, and the most spectacular scenes are the glass container-like bitternut shops overall in the cities and country-sides. We are interesting in the gap between the low and high architecture aesthetics that interbreed in the contemporary city. Therefore, the Interbreeding Field is intended to reflect these phenomena that exist in our daily life. To reach this point is also means to interfere in the process of placing a settler into a new environment, or transfer a certain environment into a subordinated one within our created field.
In Talking Cities, the major ideas of our work “Open Reality” is to explore a playful ultra-utopian that may lead to a never-ending stories which generate by the participant. One of the key ideas about space is to get “involve” and to “replace” it. We always like to raise an issue such as how to define the characters and scope of the space between the old and new structure. To us the space will present a new life and a fresh look by the concepts of interfering and instilling the proper atmosphere and forms. Like other works that had been created for different projects, we use mass production industrial wood materials in this project “Open Reality”. The reason we select this wood material is because that it represents simplify and warm characters which can explore the dignity for “object value”.
In this project “Open Reality”, we intended to create multi-layers and theatrical space in which to explore the interactivities of watching and being watched, imaging and being experimented, physical and spiritual memories in which are the qualities that we would like to transform in the depth energy of the field, or in other words, to alter the urban territories to more sensational one.
In this project, what we intended to build up is a contextual relationship which lies in the formation of the sense of place. All Interbreeding Field members hope once people get involved, it may become a hanging around place that create events and possibilities of interaction between man and environment.
